In case you missed the recent press regarding Activision Blizzard, allow us to catch you up. In recent weeks, many different details showcasing the company’s misogynistic setup, poor working conditions, especially for female staff, discrimination, sexual harassments and various other nefarious actions have come to light. Leading to some terrible press for the company, a backlash from fans and the industry alike and now, a mass exodus of all those employees that have been the source of these problems.
Reportedly, Luis Barriga, Jesse McCree and Johnathan LeCraft have all stepped down from their roles within the company. Which are Diablo Lead Director, Diablo lead designer, and WoW designer, respectively.
Jumped Before They Were Pushed?
While there is no concrete evidence to suggest that these employees were forced out. These Activision employees have all left very important roles, mid-way through projects at the height of a sexual misconduct and discrimination investigation. So it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand what has gone on here. There is still the possibility that these individuals left upon learning of this news. However, from what we have heard from the inside sources that have came forward with information. This culture was plain to see.
Activision-Blizzard had this to say regarding the recent departures:
“We can confirm Luis Barriga, Jesse McCree, and Jonathan LeCraft are no longer with the company,”
“We have a deep, talented roster of developers already in place, and new leaders have been assigned where appropriate. We are confident in our ability to continue progress, deliver amazing experiences to our players, and move forward to ensure a safe, productive work environment for all.”
Activision have been known to make inside jokes and references within their titles and the Overwatch character, McCree is one. While no change has been seen yet, if this character receives a name change in light of recent events, maybe that will give us the clarity we need about this set of departures.
Well, that is our news regarding key workers making Diablo 4 leaving the company. What do you make of the news? Do you believe that Activision can rally? Is this departure a case of jumping before being pushed? Let us know in the comments section below and as always, thank you for reading.
